School Profile

Grace Hopper STEM Academy (GHSA) is located at 601 Grace Avenue in the city of Inglewood. GHSA is a public independent charter STEM academy. GHSA's focus is on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and Project Lead The Way (PLTW). By combining academic rigor with social responsibility, coupled with the ability to master the process of scientific inquiry while developing a strong sense of self and a moral and ethical character (following the 6 PILLARS OF CHARACTER: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship) our students will be prepared for high school, college and careers.

GHSA serves students in grades 6, 7 & 8. Our current enrollment is 110 students with each grade capping at 60 students. Our teacher/student ratio averages 1/20. Maintaining small class sizes is a key factor in creating the best learning environment for all our students.

The Grace Hopper STEM Academy (GHSA) will exceed the minimum annual instructional minutes required by the California Department of Education (CDE) for grades 6-8. Our program will exceed these requirements by approximately 3,200 minutes. GHSA also offers ASES, an after-school enrichment and intervention program  from 4:00 to 6:30 pm. After school courses include such subjects as; homework help, tutoring, music appreciation, art, modern dance, drama, cultural competency, test-taking strategies, etiquette, and business administration.

In designing the preliminary master schedules it is LEI’s intent to assure that GHSA students identified as Special Needs or ELL, receive the specific courses designed to meet their Individual Education Plan and goals. Each of these students will receive the support necessary to advance and reach the highest level of there capability.

Because GHSA is designed to assist all students in becoming the mathematicians, engineers and scientists of the future, Honors and AP courses will be built into the curriculum and made available through open enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year.

Our school utilizes practical, innovative and powerful teaching methods to ignite in each student a 'passion for knowledge' and a 'love for learning'. Our school provides a fully operational Family Support Center and will be opening a full-time, comprehensive Health Clinic in the near future.

Our goal is to prepare our students to compete at the highest levels for admission to premiere high schools while embracing the ‘love of learning.’
